Brushless Motors for Drones & UAV

Professional-grade BLDC outrunner motors for commercial UAV, FPV, and industrial aerial platforms.

Understanding Drone Motor Specifications

Choosing the right motor for a drone or UAV requires matching four key parameters: KV rating (RPM per volt), stall torque, efficiency at hover thrust, and weight. Getting this wrong means poor flight time, overheating, or insufficient lift margin.

KV rating is the most misunderstood spec. Lower KV motors spin larger props at lower RPM for greater efficiency — ideal for long-range commercial UAV and camera drones. Higher KV motors spin smaller props at higher RPM for fast response — preferred in FPV racing and micro drones.

For commercial UAV operations (mapping, inspection, delivery), motor efficiency at 50–60% throttle (hover) is the critical metric. We provide efficiency curves on all drone motor models.

Motor Selection by UAV Type

Commercial / Mapping UAV

Low-KV outrunners (200–500 KV) for large props (12"–18"), optimized for hover efficiency. Long flight time is the priority. T-Motor U series and KDE Direct are industry leaders.

  • 200–500 KV rating
  • 6S–12S LiPo (22–50V)
  • 300W–1500W per motor
  • Low vibration bearings

FPV & Racing Drones

High-KV outrunners (1500–2400 KV) for 5" props, optimized for peak power and fast throttle response. Weight is critical — every gram matters in racing.

  • 1500–2400 KV rating
  • 4S–6S LiPo (14.8–22.2V)
  • 200–400W per motor
  • <35g motor weight

Industrial & Cargo UAV

Heavy-lift outrunners (100–300 KV) for 18"–30" props, designed for 10–50kg payload capacity. Redundant hall sensors and automotive-grade bearings for mission-critical reliability.

  • 100–300 KV rating
  • 6S–14S (22–52V)
  • 1kW–5kW per motor
  • IP54 weather sealing

Frequently Asked Questions

What KV motor should I use for a 5" FPV drone?

For 4S systems: 1700–2100 KV. For 6S systems: 1300–1700 KV. Higher voltage with lower KV achieves the same RPM but at lower current, reducing heat and increasing efficiency. Most modern FPV builds use 6S for better efficiency and longer burst power capability.

What is the difference between T-Motor and generic drone motors?

Premium brands like T-Motor and KDE Direct use higher-grade stator laminations, tighter winding tolerances, and better bearing specifications — resulting in measurably higher efficiency (1–4% at cruise) and 2–3× longer service life. For commercial operations where downtime has real cost, this premium is justified.

Can I get motors pre-tested with my propeller specification?

Yes. We offer motor-prop thrust testing as a value-added service for commercial UAV customers. We run thrust, current, and temperature at specified RPM points and provide the data sheet. Contact us for pricing on thrust testing packages.
